SUN SOUNDS

SpaceRef.com has an item about a recording of one of the recent solar flares made by the Saturn-bound Cassini spacecraft's. The article has a link to the web page of University of Iowa prefessor Donald Gurnett, where you can listen to the sound produced by this flare as a .wav file.

There's also a link to Gurnett's collaboration with the Kronos Quartet on their piece Sun Rings, which Anthea and I were lucky enough to see performed earlier this year in Houston. Sun Rings features recordings of space radio emmissions played as audio as part of the over-all musical composition performed by the Kronos Quartet, while a visual multi-media presentation is made of photos and film from space and images of the equations and technology involved are projected above the musicians. Very cool!
